Designer Comments

We were looking for a series of games that would be uniquely South African but with a distinct European appeal. We decided to build games focusing on Africa during the colonization period. We wanted to build a product that celebrated the magnificence of Africa. The clash of the Zulu Nation and the British Nation is a great way to start the series. To this day there are British historians trying to justify why 'primitive savages' could hand the great British empire the worst defeat they have ever suffered. Play Zulu War and discover what happened for yourself.

Story

Zulu War is a War Strategy game focusing on the battles between the British and the Zulu's during the colonization of Natal. Special attention has been paid to detail. Using actual terrain information from the battle sites as well as researching 100's of accounts of the battles in an effort to gather the most comprehensive data possible.

Game Play

  • The turn based strategy engine scales so that the player can go from playing an event with 30,000 units to an smaller event where the player is only responsible for controlling a small group of units.
  • Play the opposite side and try to change the tide of history.
  • Change the level parameters and play what if scenarios.
  • Zulu War can be played at different levels of difficulty.
  • The game engine takes troop moral, fatigue, visibility and health into account during battles.
  • A realistic weather system. Rain turns grassland to slippery mud banks.
  • Day and Night. (And naturally the odd eclipse).
  • User friendly game interface.
  • Actual terrain information from battle fields.
  • Multiplayer for LAN and Internet.

Game Events

The two battles focused on in this product are Isandwana and Rorke's drift. Each battle is divided into chapters. Each chapter represents a specific event that played a role in the battle. When the player has finished playing Zulu War he/she will have an excellent knowledge of the events that took place and how the battles unfolded. We have over 25 chapters from these two battles. An add on pack following Ulundi and other significant battles of the Zulu War will be release by about Mid 2002.

Multiplayer

Zulu War has support for online play as well as LAN play. Many scenarios outside of the major battles will be included for multiplayer. An online league will rate players and organize tournament events. The online league will be dedicated to more then just the Zulu War game, but also for all the Southern African Heritage collection games.
