Mortyr Box

The crazy chill'down-dude and cosmic boy got their hands on a fresh copy of Mortyr earlier this week (this game actually went to European stores before the US ones). The sweet ass Cosmo have tossed together a review of this Polish first-person shooter. Get ready to kick some nazi butt!

Tested by Axel "Cosmo" Sjøstedt (with assistance from Ståle "chiller" Kristoffersen)

NOTE: This review was written a long, long time ago. Long before our standard review "rules" were set, and long before I grew up and managed to write some decent English. But hey - we don't censor, so here it is!

Lamers always request the game story, and we won't forsake you readers of love... You start in an alternate reality, where the world is ruled by the Nazi Reich. These nazis managed to win the World War II by constructing a Time Machine. Today, a shitload of years later - 2093 to be precise - nobody remembers the world the way it was before. The nazi dudes have replaced the history, making the Nazi rule as the every-day reality (bones shaking).

But - some military scientists, lead by general Jurgen Mortyr, feel that something is wrong. Due disasters, adverse weather conditions and stuff - they decide to send a trused person back to the past to make the world as it was before.

Jurgen's son, the well-trained killing machine Sebastian gets chosen. AFAIK - the main ho-pop code monkey at Mirage is nemed Sebastian Zielinski, so, err. Bah. His task is to kill the inventor of the first Time Machine, and blow his work up. But something goes wrong. A calculation error (classic, eh?) made Sebastian appear in a small chapel, outside the huge castle. He is left totally alone, with no kill-equippment at all (well, he actually has a foot, but..). There are a bunch of nazis wating to kill him - you are the hero, and you have a mission to complete...

[SHOT] This is actually where Sebastian are starting. But look at that weapon! Ass-kickers in God mode. Satan mode, actually.    [SHOT] Die, die, DIE!!!    [SHOT] The very first guy I'm gonna kill. Kick him to death!

Mortyr is developed by the Polish bastards at Mirage, and you can think of it as a Wolf3D-ish game, redecorated to fit the expectant needs of the mad children in the 21th century. The game uses Mirage's very own 3D Engine, and it sure is a wonderful sight. We especially got blessed by the beautiful reflections and details in the game. It's filled up with athmospheric levels - you practically gets in love with it. Though it's not introducing a new genre to the people, it sure is fun to play. Here's a round-up of the different categories (always available at the right side):
